Honda Pilot 2024 Redesign Interior, Colors, Specs – Although the 2024 Honda Pilot is only about a year away from a complete redesign, this three-row SUV has aged well and offers an attractive design for families needing additional space.
2024 Honda Pilot Redesign
Honda dropped the LX and EX trim levels from the lineup but added a base Sport trim level and a Trailsport trim package. Honda continues to sell the Pilot as a three-row SUV alongside the Honda Passport, a five-seat SUV. The Pilot, which resembles a minivan with hinged doors rather than a rugged SUV, foregoes practicality in favor of elegance. Under the hood, the 280-horsepower V-6 engine pairs well with the 9-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard, although front-wheel purpose is also available. The Pilot is one of the more thirsty large SUVs, with 22 or 23 miles per gallon combined fuel efficiency.
The interior space is spacious and well-designed, with reasonable accommodations for outboard passengers in rows one and two and above-average accommodations for the remainder of the passengers. Although the inside is mainly composed of easy-to-clean materials, the range-topping Elite does not lack luxuries. Each Pilot is equipped with active safety technologies and receives good crash-test results. The IIHS downgraded the Pilot’s Top Safety Pick designation due to concerns regarding front-passenger protection.
The 2024 Honda Pilot is highly efficient with its internal space. It earns a nine-out-of-ten rating from us, with points earned for human hauling capability in all three seats and a spacious cargo area. Leather chairs are now standard, and the front thrones offer superior support and come standard with heating and cooling. The second row can be configured as a bench or captain’s chair. Travelers will appreciate the easy ingress and the more than 38 inches of legroom once aboard.
The third row is easily accessible for a crossover thanks to a single button that flops the middle seats forward. With 32 inches of legroom, row three is even suitable for adults. There are roughly 17 cubic feet of cargo space; this grows to 46 cubic feet with the third row folded and 80 cubic feet with the second row down. The Pilot’s interior is made of robust materials, but there is little to excite at the $50,000 price tag Honda attaches to top-of-the-line models.
The 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 is more impressive for its smooth acceleration than its ability to win stoplight drag races. This adds another point to the SUV’s score, bringing it to a 6 out of 10. The conventional nine-speed automatic transmission is a fast performer on the whole. We have noticed a few low-speed stumbles, but they are few and far between.
The Pilot can pull 5,000 pounds when equipped with the optional towing package—but we look to brawnier competitors for actual tugging capability. The Pilot is not an off-road vehicle, even with optional 20-inch alloy wheels. The base 18s ride softly and handle well for a car this size, with perfectly weighted steering.
2024 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price
This year’s downsized Pilot selection starts at $38,055 and climbs to about $55,000 with optional features.
The Pilot EX-L offers a well-balanced feature set and is the one we’d recommend.
