The 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback of the current generation is sleeker and more sophisticated than the origami-inspired design of the previous generation. Restrained? Yes. Boring? Possibly. The inquiry is, will it result in more sales? There’s a good chance.
For the 2023 model year, all models will come standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but customers looking for additional power may choose between either the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-banger or the 2.0-liter engine.
The CVT is an option on this model, but the hatchback is a better alternative if you prefer to change gears manually. For our comparative testing, we stepped into the Sport Touring trim levels of both vehicles to evaluate how they compared.
New 2023 Honda Civic Exterior
Japanese carmaker Honda expects its sporty Civic design to attract consumers, even as sales of hatchbacks have declined, thanks to the 2018 model year’s Euro-inspired fastback design. LEDs are standard on all models’ front and rear lights, while LED fog lights are an option on the most costly versions.
Power moonroofs and twin exhaust tips are standard equipment on EX-L vehicles, but they are only available as options on Sport Touring variants. Only the EX-L has 17-inch wheels among the three variants; the others have 18-inch wheels. The Sport’s black window surrounds, and other exterior accents complete the entire look.
Until now, Honda has never claimed that the 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback rear seats were as roomy as they are now. With 37.4 inches of legroom and 37.7 inches of headroom, rear passengers control more space to lengthen their legs than those in the front seats. A minimalist home design gives more freedom while still serving a practical function.
Even though only the most costly versions have eight-way power seats, the driver’s seat is comfortable, and the view ahead is unobstructed. Top-of-the-line performances come standard with heated front seats and leather upholstery, as well as a host of modern safety systems. Visiting the Civic Hatch is a great way to spend time with friends.
The Civic Sedan’s basic engine and transmission are the same as those in the Civic Coupe, at 2.0 liters and six speeds, respectively. Both the LX and Sport versions come standard with a CVT automatic transmission, but the Sport model also offers a six-speed manual transmission as an option. Only the 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder Sport Touring variant has a manual transmission and delivers 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.
The Civic Hatch CVT now has a sport mode, much like the sedan. In this setting, the CVT reaches 6,000 rpm, which is close to the maximum power of the Civic. We don’t like aggressively programmed CVTs, even if they’re humorous. If you’re looking for pure driving pleasure, it’s still a good idea to utilize the manual.

2023 Honda Civic Hatchback models start at $22,900 MSRP; all-wheel-drive Sport models top out at $24,100. Both the Sport Touring and the EX-L have two gears, which cost $29,400 and $26,600. The $1,015 in shipping and handling charges from Honda are not included in this pricing.
